Consider sharing your story in a Personally Speaking blog on the TAC website

We’re looking for personal, motivational, and informative blogs based on your experience with severe mental illness (SMI).

  • Who can submit a Personally Speaking blog? Anyone touched by SMI can submit: a person living with SMI, a family member, a professional, a friend, etc.
  • What should the blog focus on? Please hone in on a part of your experience, such as treatment access, Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT), criminalization, bed shortages, anosognosia (lack of insight), gaps in care, homelessness, or another specific issue that has impacted you.
  • How many words? Please limit submissions to 800 words.
  • Can I submit something I’ve published elsewhere? No. All blog posts should be original and exclusive to the Treatment Advocacy Center website.
  • How should I format my story? We don’t want to limit your creativity, so the format is flexible. One option is a three-part format, beginning with an impactful moment. The second part can connect your story to a key issue or barrier. The third section is a place for you to draw conclusions about what has happened, what needs to change, and your vision.
  • Can someone help me edit my blog? Yes. Our staff will help you finalize your piece. We will never publish anything without your permission.
  • Can I publish a blog without identifying myself or someone that I’m writing about? Yes. We respect your right to privacy and will support any need for anonymity.
  • Should I include a photo? Yes, please! Photos enhance any story but are not required. Photos should be high resolution (1MB or greater) and cannot be copyright protected.
